The paintings grouped in this section are particularly eloquent in the way they demonstrate Heffer’s links to the English watercolour tradition, John Sell Cotman in particular, even though the medium he uses is not watercolour on paper, but oil on board, or oil on canvas. Near the White Horse is particularly Cotmanesque, as indeed its title suggests.
