It is evident that coastal scenery, combinations of land and water, offers motifs that inspire a good deal of Heffer’s work – all the more so because he lives near to the southern coast of England, close to Eastbourne in East Sussex, a place that is famous, among other things for its proximity to towering chalk cliffs, dropping sheer into the sea.
